Posturology
Posturology is a branch of medicine concerned with the research and treatment of traumatic and non-traumatic causes that lead to painful symptoms in the musculoskeletal system , while taking into account not only the area affected by the symptom but the postural system as a whole. Modern posturology provides a better understanding of the origin of many functional disorders of the musculoskeletal system. Research in neuro-physiopathology, anatomy, biomechanics, and clinical experience now make it possible to more readily identify the etiology of many osteo-myofascial symptoms. Postural re-education according to the Mézières method. It is a specific postural rehabilitation technique aimed at restoring symmetry to the various parts of the body and returning muscles—which are subject to constant shortening caused by poor posture, physical strain, or other issues of various kinds—to their original length. Stretched muscle chains and correct posture, in fact, allow for better function and fluidity of movement, and are essential in resolving painful symptoms. What is the Mézières Method recommended for? It is particularly recommended for addressing musculoskeletal issues, including: • chronic or acute spinal pain (back pain, dorsalgia, lumbalgia, cervicalgia) • postural abnormalities in adults and children (hyperlordosis, hyperkyphosis, scoliosis, varus-valgus knees, flat or high arches) • Loss of muscle elasticity, localized muscle spasms in the upper and/or lower limbs • joint pain • postural consequences of trauma. It is important to note that every case is unique; therefore, to begin a Mésières postural rehabilitation program, expert guidance from a physical therapist is necessary following a careful analysis of the patient’s clinical history and previous postural condition.
