Medical Oncology deals with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of solid tumors . Prevention involves guiding “healthy” people toward healthy lifestyle habits (not smoking, regular physical activity, a healthy diet, etc.), encouraging participation in screening (for breast, uterine, and colon cancer, etc.). Cancer diagnosis relies on numerous specific methods: CT scans, MRIs, PET scans, histological and molecular tests, as well as a wide range of medical specialists: surgeons, radiation oncologists, gynecologists, gastroenterologists, etc. Cancer treatment relies on pharmacological therapies: CHEMOTHERAPY, TARGETED THERAPIES, IMMUNOTHERAPY, RADIOTHERAPY, and SURGERY. In addition, cancer care also includes Supportive Care , which is provided at home to patients undergoing cancer treatment and palliative care , which are provided at home or in hospice facilities to patients in the final stages of their illness.
